William Guy: Biography

Home
Poet and Author William Guy

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. That fact is probably important. Three times I have tried to leave for good (or for ill) and as a result have lived in some interesting places. Latterly (since 1991at least) I have resigned myself to the delights and advantages of living in my native city while traveling extensively.

I was educated at Sterrett School, Shady Side Academy, Duke University, Princeton University, and by William F. Orr. I have earned a B.A., an M.A. and a Ph.D. Ultimately in my formal education I specialized in English Renaissance literature, writing my doctoral dissertation on Spenser's use of the Bible in Books One and Two of THE FAERIE QUEENE. In my informal education I have been unable to limit myself to one field. I taught English for four years at the Ellis School in Pittsburgh. After moving to New York in 1976, I began writing full time. Information about all that I have written since then is available in the various compartments of this web site.

A shilling life may give you all the facts. In my case my books tell more about me than anything else that I could write here would.
